The ArtSciLab is home to a multitude of student research researchers, employees, and collaborators, and this National Student Employee Week, we would like to invite department heads to use the Crier to highlight and thank their student employees for their work on the various projects they are taking on during their educational journey! Please use our form to send in your input! We are also reposting some communication from the UTD Office of Student Employment offering some appreciation ideas and resources.

Every second full week in April is National Student Employment Week (12th-18th this year) and despite being mostly remote there are still multiple ways to show your students some appreciation for their hard work and continued commitment to their assignments with your department or office. We’ve provided the following guide for you as a reference to different options you might want to employ in your areas!
FREE IDEAS
·Give E-kudos- Visit http://ekudos.servco.com/ and send your students custom e-kudos cards as appreciation to your student
·Start a recognition program in your office/department (Student Spotlight or Customer Service Celeb) and make the first presentation and selection during Student Employment Week
·(If on campus) Highlight your student workers with an office bulletin board or the office door for the week for recognition
·Chalk it up to Your Student Workers - Use sidewalk art and take pictures as a billboard to thank your student workers in a big and colorful way. Take a pic for Instagram and use the hashtag "#utdsew"
·Brag on them with a message in your departmental newsletter to say “thanks”! List student employee’s names and titles to make sure that they feel that their work is valued
· Create a bounce-back message for your department’s inbox or a status message in Teams up that recognizes your student employees
· Create a virtual happy hour or appreciation evening after work is done
LOW-COST IDEAS
· Buy a card and have all full-time employees (faculty and staff) in your area write a short note of appreciation inside
· Anchor Plants - Take cuttings from a plant in the office and give to each student as a live "connection" to your office
·Virtual Open House- Create a mandatory meeting for your student workers (secretly inviting faculty or staff from your area) to honor your student workers and provide them with e-gift cards or another special surprise
OTHER IDEAS
·Pizza party- if you happen to have your student’s contact/location information send a pizza their way! (with notice of course)
· Make goodie bags to distribute to your student employees with both treats and useful goodies (hand sanitizer, door openers, plastic gloves, candy, popcorn and other items)
·Give your students some energy in a jar
We hope this fun list gives you ideas of different ways to ensure your student assistants feel the love during National Student Employment Week and beyond!
